Essential Programming Languages of 2017: Specific Functions Part 3

1 August 2017

Recently we learned a little about PHP, C, C++ and C# —programming languages that we use to build applications and web pages. Today, let’s learn about another set of programming languages, and what they are used for.

Objective-C (and Swift)

Objective-C and Swift are both used for OS X and iOS application development—and are both among the top 10 most in-demand programming languages of 2017. Since Objective-C was made to be built on top of a layer of C, it is a static language. But the language also allows dynamic typing, should developers need it to do so.

Swift, on the other hand, was inspired by Python, C, and Objective-C. It is simple and easy to learn without compromising usability and features. It is compatible with Objective-C, even fixing some of the issues with its predecessor. This language allows static typing, lessening mistakes and malfunctions in the code.

SQL

While SQL is not a programming language, per se, it is a mediator between databases. It cannot be used to develop applications; rather, it is used for data management for applications that use relational database management systems (RDMS).

Scala

Scala stands for scalable language. Even though Java is a widely used language, some programmers find it to be a little complicated. Thus, Scala was born. Scala fills in where Java comes up short. It patches the problems with its predecessor, while still running on the Java VM.

While these last three languages are not as famous as the first ones, they are still among the top 10 languages to know in 2017. Scala, for example, grew by 54% in demand in 2016, and demand for the language will continue to grow. While there are so many different programming languages, if you approach our programmers with a problem, rest assured we will use the best language for your needs.
